Apple Podcasts is still for many the primary directory of podcasts. Even apps that run on Android use the iTunes Store as a basis for their own directories, and in less well-considered podcast apps, your podcast can't even be heard if it's not listed with Apple Podcasts.

The good news is it's pretty easy. All you need to get started is an Apple ID.

Making sure you have an Apple ID

An Apple ID is an account with Apple, that's linked to an email address (that email address can be anything; it needn't be an iCloud address). Get started creating an Apple ID via the Apple website.

Submitting via Podcasts Connect

Podcasts Connect is Apple's directory submission and podcast analytics portal. Here's what you need to do:

Login to Podcasts Connect with your Apple ID

You should land in the "My podcasts" section. If you don't, click the dropdown at the top of the page and select "My podcasts".

Now, click the + button underneath the dropdown, and enter your RSS feed URL.

Getting your RSS feed URL

You'll find this in your podcast dashboard, on the right-hand side, in "About your podcast". Just click the URL and it'll be copied into your clipboard.

Now, paste your RSS feed URL into the "URL" box and press Enter.

After a few seconds, the page will show some information about your podcast. If all's well, you'll see the "Submit" button become clickable. Click that, and you're done.

Things to consider before you submit

Make sure you've got at least one episode in your feed. Apple won't consider your feed unless there is some downloadable audio. A trailer is a good placeholder if you're not ready to submit your first episode just yet.
Make sure you've supplied artwork that is at least 1400x1400 pixels in size. This is handled in your dashboard, under Settings, and it's essential you have an image that is square, and of at least those proportions. Images smaller than 1400x1400 pixels will not be accepted by Apple.
Wait a few moments before making changes. We statically host your RSS feed, which means we have to rebuild it once you make changes. This may take a couple of minutes (the "About your podcast" section of your dashboard will tell you when your feed was last updated, and if it's due to be updated again). If you've just added an episode or uploaded your artwork and you're still seeing an error message from Apple, give it up to 15 minutes.

If you're still having problems, get in touch with us.

Once your podcast is accepted...

You'll receive an email from Apple with an iTunes Store URL. This is the only URL that will be accepted by Podiant. (Sometimes users are tempted to add their RSS feed URL or some other text, but this is confusing to users, so we validate your URL to make sure it's correct.)

Paste the URL Apple provides into the box in the Settings \> Directory listings section of your Podiant dashboard.
